A useful ChatGPT BaZi reading starts with a chart you can check and a question you actually want to explore. If you have only birth details, first establish how they become the Four Pillars. If you already have a chart, keep that chart fixed while asking for an interpretation. You will then be able to follow the answer from its input to its explanation—and decide what to ask next.

Choose a starting point
BaZi uses four pillars for the birth year, month, day and hour, with a heavenly stem and earthly branch in each. The Hong Kong Observatory explains this timekeeping structure in its guide to stems and branches. Calculating those characters and interpreting their relationships are connected tasks with different outputs.
| What you have | Your next step | What to keep |
|---|---|---|
| A birth date, time and location | Confirm the calendar and time record, then calculate the chart | Original inputs, calculation source, time conventions and four pillars |
| A readable chart | Check that it belongs to the right person and uses the intended details | A checked text version of the pillars; a screenshot can help |
| An earlier AI reading | Recover the birth details and chart behind it | The material that connects the explanation to an identifiable chart |

For a screenshot, check that the characters were read correctly before discussing them. Ask the AI to list the four pillars it sees and compare them with the image yourself. Supplying a checked text version can make this easier.
Keep uncertainty in the input. If the birth time is unknown, say so. Entering noon to fill an empty field creates a precise-looking value without giving you a better record.
Ask how the calculation was done
AI systems can work with code and external tools. As checked on October 28, 2026, the official GPT-6.1 Sol API documentation lists code execution and tool capabilities. That does not tell you which tools are enabled in a particular ChatGPT conversation. Product, account and environment matter.
The practical question is what happened in your session. If you ask for a chart from birth details, try this first:
List the birth information you read from my message. Explain which
calculation tool or calendar source you will use.
After calculating, show the year, month, day and hour pillars and state
the time basis, day boundary and year boundary used. If a suitable tool
or necessary input is missing, identify the missing step.
Wait for the chart to be checked before interpreting it.
This is an original task prompt to try, not a recorded model test. Inspect the resulting pillars and calculation source rather than treating the phrase “I calculated it” as the whole record.
Another workable route is to calculate the chart in a dedicated tool, then ask ChatGPT to explain that result. Choose the route that makes the input and output easiest to inspect. If two tools produce different pillars, resolve that difference before comparing the stories written about them.
Give the reading one real situation
Once you have a chart, choose a manageable question. “Tell me everything about my life” leaves little guidance about what a useful answer would look like. A recent event gives both you and the AI something concrete to discuss. OpenAI's prompting guidance recommends supplying relevant context and describing the result you need.
Here is a fictional situation you can adapt:
Use the attached BaZi chart to help me explore this situation.
When a friend changes our plans at the last minute, I tend to agree
immediately. Later, I feel frustrated that my own arrangements changed.
I want to understand that response and express my needs more clearly.
Explain the relevant traditional chart concepts, then connect them to
this situation. Distinguish chart-based interpretation from information
in my account. End with one question worth observing in everyday life.
Identify anything the material does not establish.
You are giving the interpretation a purpose. You can add a contrasting event too: perhaps you readily say no to a close friend but find it difficult with someone you know less well. That difference gives the conversation somewhere to go beyond a broad personality description.
Continue with something you can observe
Suppose an interpretation describes you as quick to decide. In the fictional example, the quick agreement is visible; its reason is still open. Ask whether the explanation concerns conversational habits, concern for the friend or an assumption that needs more information.
Then notice the next occasion. Did you check your diary before replying? Did you explain what was inconvenient? How did the other person respond? Bringing that event back gives you a more specific follow-up than asking the AI to repeat its interpretation at greater length.
| Part of a reading | A useful continuation |
|---|---|
| An unfamiliar term | Ask how it is being used in this particular chart |
| A description that feels familiar | Add a concrete event and an occasion when you acted differently |
| A statement about the future | Ask about its period and conditions; keep it as a theme to revisit |
| A suggested action | Check whether it fits your circumstances and relationships |

OpenAI's usage guidance also asks users to review results. A checked calculation helps establish which chart is being discussed. Deciding how a traditional interpretation relates to your life takes further observation and judgment.
Keep the chart and the conversation together
If you want to enter birth details, save a chart, read an interpretation and continue asking about it, the FateWay workspace brings those steps into one workflow. It organizes AI-assisted readings around the traditional BaZi framework and saved chart information.
You will need to sign in and provide birth details. Read the entitlement or credit conditions shown before starting a report or another action. For the actual setup steps, use the FateWay getting-started guide.
Your first session can stay small: one checked chart, one situation and one question to revisit. That is enough to begin a conversation whose reasoning you can follow.
